The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry is an awesome book about the rain forest. In it, the rain forest animals give a man with an ax many reasons NOT to chop down the kapok tree. The illustrations are beautiful and the lessons about nature are priceless. Check it out today!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl

I have read this book since I was in second grade. It brings back so many childhood memories. The movies don't do the book justice.

Where the Wild Things Are
by Maurice Sendak.
This book is about the imaginary adventures of a young boy named Max, who is punished by his Mother for "making mischief" by being sent to his room without supper. A very "Wild Rompous" follows!

A new favorite book that I read in my class for the first time this year is I'M THE BIGGEST THING IN THE OCEAN by Kevin Sherry. A giant squid swims around bragging to all the other sea creatures that he is bigger than they are until he suddenly realizes that perhaps he isn't really the biggest afterall...

The Little Engine That Could
by: Watty Piper

This is my favorite book because it is about a little engine that tries his best and helps out another train engine. The little blue engine has a positive attitude and is willing to be helpful.

Brown Bear, Bear Bear by: Eric Carle

This picture book shows many different animals in many different colors. It also shows a picture of a mommy and many different children. It is a great story for students just learning to read. It is also great for building early language skills with non-readers

David Goes to School By David Shannon

I enjoy reading this story to students so they can see if they remember the rules they should follow. David does not follow the rules!

A Wrinkle In Time
by Madeleine L'Engle
Meg Murry and her friends tesser through space as they search for her father who has disappeared while engaged in secret work for the government. This book helped me to grasp the concept of moving through space and feeling the presence of others without seeing bodies. Heaven seemed more real. Ms. C.

My favorite book as a child was the book called Angel Unaware. It was written by Dale Evans Rogers about her child that was born with Downs Syndrome. It was a sad book but it made me realize the love that parents have for their children. Mrs. M.

My class loves to read the Weird School books by Dan Gutman. I suggest picking up "Miss Daisy is Crazy" to meet some very interesting 2nd Graders and their extremely helpless teacher, Miss Daisy! The students have a lot to learn but, "It won't be easy!" : )
