Here it is - February! We've been recording what we are reading since last September (that's 6 months, gang) and each month you have been getting better. Our challenge this month is to try a new kind of recording: video. Write your post on a piece of paper, practice reading it until you almost have it memorized and we will have a camera for you to do the report on February 23rd during class. Are you up to it? By the way, we will only be showing the book and listening to your voice, so you don't have to worry about how you look on camera. While we are recording, some of you will be posting your comments in writing, so come prepared for that, too.Thursday, February 4, 2010
What are you reading in February, 3rd Grade?

In Feb. I read Life Cycle of a Salmon
by Angela Royston. The best part was when the salmon took their journey to the salty sea. Many die on their way there and back, because they have lots of enemies like people, birds, seals, and bears. People catch them in their nets to sell them for food. When the females and males go back home they are ready to spawn. The females are fat with eggs. When they are done spawning they are weak from their long journey. When the eggs have been laid, the males and females die.

In Feb. I read Life Cycle of a Frog by Angela Royston. The best part was the tadpoles hatched and started their new life. They have gills to breathe underwater. They have enemies like water insects and other animals. Some will live and eat tiny plants. They grow their back legs first, then lungs, then front legs grow inside the gill pouches. At 12 weeks it is a froglet with a short tail. They hibernate in the winter and wake up very hungry in spring like a bear. Adult frogs mate and lay thousands of eggs in the same pond where they were born.

In Feb. I read Felicity's New Sister by Valerie Tripp. The best part was when Felicity had to take care of her sister and brother. She put them in the corner by the fire and took off their wet socks and shoes. Felicity couldn't sleep, because her mother kept moaning in pain. After a while, it was quiet. Felicity went to the door of her mother's room, peeked through the door, and saw her new sister. Felicity was a sister all over again!

In Feb. I read Amazing Otters by M.
Barbara Brownell. The best part was when they have playtime. This a funny part because at one minute it is relaxing and at another minute it is diving in the water and doing somersaults and playing tag.

In March I read Main Street Keeping Secrets by Ann M. Martin.
There was a man who moved out of one of the houses. So there was this girl named Willow who moved in. But she has a crazy mom! Well Willow has a brother named Cole So once this girl who's name is Flora went up to Cole and she's like you should come to the dog parade because it will be really fun. So she went to the door to ask his mom. But she threw a tantrum like I would probaly do if I didn't get what I wanted then she said "I dont want them going to the dog parade." Then she slam the door. Flora got so scared she ran as fast as she could to her house. Then once she did the same thing and they had to call the police. So she had to go to a hospital and stay there for a long time. My favorite was when they had the dog parade.

In March I read The Ninth Nugget.
I liked it because it was mysteries.I liked how Dink,Josh,and Ruth Rose go to a ranch.One day they went gold fishing.Everyone found gold except for Josh.So Josh went upstream.Then the others heard a yell.Josh fell in the water!They saw Josh hold up a BIG peice of gold.

In March I read Watch Your Whiskers Stilton! By Geronimo Stilton.
At the begining Geronimo is looking at the newspaper stand and he can not find his newspaper. Then he asks Inkypaws the mouse who owns the newspaper and he says that a mysterious one eyed rat ofered him a lot of money to just sell his newspapers and he also said that the rat threw all your newspapers in the dumbster. Then Geronimo goes to the Library to buy his own book but that mysterious one eyed rat ofered the librarian a lot of money just to sell his books so he said yes. Then when Geronimo gets to his office he tells everybody there that I do not know what to do to stay in businees. To get a lot of money to stay in businees Geronimo goes on a game show at midnight and if he answers all four questions right he wins one million dollars if he misses one question his tail gets cut off.

All Karen wanted for her birthday was for 2 familys to be together. Karen's dad was going to take her to the circus.Karen's Mom was going to have a proper dinner.Karen had fun at her birthday parties.

In March I read The sience fair from the black lagoon
This story is about a kid named Hubie. He is making a sience fair progect.He is making a machine called the laugh machine.It ends up he is making a suit with funny stuff on it. All he does is press his belly button and he burps everybody laughs and Hubie wins the price. DT in 3B
In March I read Igraine The Brave by Cornella Funke. My most favorite part of the book was when the Sorrowful Knight fought Rowan Heartless who once had an enchanted lance. It was the fourth time the Sorrowful Knight fought Rowan Heartless. The main reason he was fighting was to distract Osmund who was trying to take over Pimpernel Castle. Igraine's parents turned themselves into pigs by accident. They were making Igraine's birthday present. She wanted to be a knight so they were making her armor as a present. Now Igraine's parents had to make a magic bath but they had no giant hairs. So Igraine went off to collect giant hairs on her birthday in her new armor. They told her to go to Garleff, the nicest giant. So she went off and collected some of his hairs and left. But Garleff told the Sorrowful Knight to escort her home. Her parents took the magic bath while the Sorrowful Knight fought Rowan. While Igraine's parents took the bath no magic worked and that is why the Sorrowful Knight is fighting.

In March I read Harry Potter and the Prisioner of Azkaban by J.K Rowling. At the begining Harry is celebrating his 13th birthday with the terrible Durslys,Harry's only living reletives. Then Uncle Vernon's sister Marge comes for a visit. when they are having dinner Aunt Marge says mean things about Harry's parents! So then Harry makes Aunt Marge go really puffy and makes her fly up in the air! Uncle Vernon gets really mad so Harry runs away from the Durslys,who live on Privet Drive. Then he sits down on the curb and then things start movig by themselves and then he sees a dog and then Harry falls over! Then Harry can hear something around the corner and then the dog is gone. Then he goes to stay at like a magical hotel and sees his two best friends. Then they go to their magical school Harry finds out that somebody is trying to kill him! In the middle Harry starts wanting to look for him. By the end harry finds out that the guy is not really bad and that he is his godfather.

In March I read A Cheese-Colored Camper by Geronimo Stilton.
Geronimo and his family go on a vacation. So they go to a place called Ratzikistan. But Geronimo does not like that place. So he says he does not want to go. But his grandfather is really mean so he shouts at him and says you are going. So Geronimo has to go. Poor Geronimo. My favorite part was when they made Geronimo go into the forest by himself.

In March I read Harry Pottrer And The Sorcerer's Stone.By J.K Rowling
This is a book about a kid named Harry Potter and when he was a new borned baby his parents died. A evil wizard called you know who because peaple are afraid to say his name. His name Voldemort. Voldemort tried to kill Harry to but for some reason he couldn't do it so that is why the name of Harry Potter is so famous. He grew up with his aunt and uncle and a kid named Dudley. They were called Muggles thats what wizards call people that are not wizards or witches. Harry always got pushed around by Dudley. Plus Harry didn't now he was a wizard because his parents died and his aunt and uncle didn't want to to tell them because he could use magic against them. DT in 3B
In March I read The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder. My most favorite part of the book was when the train came after seven months of blizzards almost nonstop. The first blizzard was in October and almost nonstop blizzards until April. The Ingalls family were tired from the bread and potatoes they've been eating. Then the Wilder boys went to get more wheat.
The town had no wheat. Almanzo was very brave to go and find wheat. When the train came Laura was excited. They finally got the Christmas barrel. It contained clothes and a turkey. There were other foods too like flour and sugar. The Ingalls family were very happy.

In March I read Franny K Stein mad scincetist Lunch Walks Among Us By Jim Benton.
Franny has alot of contrapions in her room,but her mom does not like the way her room is.So her mom makes her room all girly like and no matter how messy Franny makes it she keeps making it all girly.One day when Franny went to school her teacher asked her to stay after class.Her teacher asked her if she could look at what the ather kids do,so she did.The next day she took notes from the ather kids in her class.After that day Franny made a poshion that turned her in to a girly girl.Franny throw away her pumpkin monster and the next day it came back to life!When Franny did that she had to give up her friends to save the school.She yelled,give me your luch meat and bread!Then she started to sew the meat together.Then she yelled out,put your bread right under the pole.The kids hurried while Franny was making a lunch meat sandwich!The monster with Miss Shelly climb to the top of the pole.Franny just got done with making the meat monster.Now there is a monster fight.The meat monster shaked the pole and Miss Shelly fell into a plile of bread.The meat monster wins!every body likes Franny and the meat monster is a januitor!
In March I read Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling. Harry Potter is celebrating his 12th birthday with the Durslys. Then a house elf named Dobby comes and tells Harry that he can't go back to Hogwarts, his magical shcool. Then Dobby dumps pudding all over Uncle Vernon's boss's wife! Then Harry Gets sent to his room and a letter from Hogwarts. Then his best friend Ron Weasly comes to save him in a flying car and they go to the Borrow, Ron's house. Then when they need to get their stuff from Diagon Alley they have to travel by floo powder. When Harry Goes in he ends up in a place called Knockturn Alley. Then Hagrid, the Hogwarts gamekeeper finds him and takes him to Diagon Alley. The Weaslys find him with his other best friend,Hermione Granger and they get their stuff and go to catch the Hogwarts Exspress. It is Ginny's[Ron's sister's] First year so Mrs. and Mr. Weasly went in with Ginny and Harry and Ron were going to go in after them but the barrier had locked! So Harry and Ron took the flying car to Hogwarts! When they got to Hogwarts mean Professer Severus Snape spotted them and punised them then when Harry was at Hogwarts one day while walking through the corridors with Ron and Hermione he spotted a sign on the wall painted with blood that said the chamber had been opened and then a while later another sign appeared that said her body will lie in the chamber forever and guess who's body? Ginny Weasly's! So Harry goes to save Ginny but he gets bit by the Basilisk,the giant snake that lives in the chamber. But then a phionox comes along and heals him. Phionox tears have healing powers. then they get out of the chamber and everybody's ok

In March I read I'm Too Fond of my Fur by Geronimo Stilton.
At the begining Geronimo is watching a TV comercial about people who are bald can have a lot of hair on their head. When Geronimo gets a call from professor Von Volt he is at Mouse Everest and he needs Geronimo to pick up his diary from his house and come over to Mouse Everest to give me the diary. When Geronimo packs up his family decides to go with him. When Geronimo gets there he eats some cheese called yak cheese. When they are climbing up Mouse Everest Geronimo is going up very slow.

In March I read Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban.It is about a boy named Harry Potter. He is going to a school caled Hogwarts. It is his 3erd year. He has had edventures the last 2 years. This year Lord Voldemorts helpor is trying to kill Harry. Harry is trying to have fun at Hogwarts but still wach out. Harry dos not spels that will pertect him from a wiserd so parefl. In March I read Dark Day in the Deep Sea.By Mary Pope Osborne.It is about two kids who go to the ocean and they have to find the third secret.When they are at the beach they find pirates coming toward them so they ran to there tree house.Soon they went down the tree house to go meet them.Then one of the pirates told them they could come on the boat if they wanted to and they said yes.When they were on the ship a big storm was coming strate torward them so all the pirates went to the bottom deck but Jack felt sick so he went to the top deck because he thought he was going to through up but a big wave hit him and he got wiped of the ship.Then an octopus came and grabed Jack and Jack saw Annie under the water then they thought it would hurt them but it saved them.Then the octopus went to the pirate ship and Jack and Annie got on the boat and said good by to the octopus.Then one of the pirates saw Jack and Annie and he took them back to the beach and said thanks for coming on the HMS challenger.So Jack and Annie went to their tree house and wished to go to to Frog Creek Woods.When they got their they ran to thier house and went to bed and Jack and Annie were happy.

In March I read All because of a cup of coffee.At the begining Geronimo got in love with a girl mouse.He went on a crazy adventure to the valley of the cheesttes. When Benjamin woke up Geronimo they found the butterfly that will make them famose.The butterfly went through a hole and Benjamin foled it.When Benjamin came back he shoued Geronimo some pictures. When they got back to New mouse city they didn't have the pictures.But Benjamin had a butterfly with him.They became famose.He got lots of phone calls. Mice where chasing him.When he got home he talked to Stephanie von Sugerfur his true love.But not any more.

In March I read No Talking by Andrew Clements.
At the begining Lynsey and Dave are doing an report on Italy but Dave coughs on purpose because he is trying not to talk so his teacher tells him to go get a drink of water from the drinking fountain and we will do you later. At lunch time Dave talks to Lynsey about no talking for two days and it is going to be all the boys in the school against all the girls in the school. They also say that the contest wiil last for two whole days and no talking at school or at home and if you do talk at home you have to be honest. In the middle of the story at recess a girl talks for about one minute so it cost the girls a lot of points. At the end of the story the girls win the no talking contest.
